Bling New Life into a Holiday Gift

How many of you got these for Christmas? Cute Holiday soap bottles. Totally adorable for the Thanksgiving to Jan 1st season, but now what do you do with them?

Photo (15)

I have tried to peel off the label, but what a sticky mess it leaves on the bottle.

So I used the awesome Rhinestone Dazzling Diamond Sticker Sheets from the Buckle Boutique. Simply cut a piece to fit over the label and peel off the paper backing. Stick it over the label and your done. So simple, so fast and because the sheets are resin rhinestones they are water proof enough for this to get wet in the bathroom without causing peeling. Photo (12)

Breath new life into your day with sparkles!

Spring Wood Surfaces Vintage Valentines Sign

I wrote this post as part of a paid campaign with Plaid Crafts, Michaels, and Blueprint Social. The opinions in this post are my own.

I created a vintage whitewashed Valentines sign for my house, using the Spring Wood Surfaces sign board. I love the shape of the board and it already had the attached hanging rope.

Springwood-14

I was lucky to get a great box of items. My box had the large sign board  by Spring Wood Surfaces plus a large selection of wood letters. There were also bottles of Vintage Decor Paint with a chalk finish by Martha Stewart and the large Martha Stewart Brush.

First, I started by painting the board blue with the Navy Vintage Decor Paint.

Springwood-2

Springwood-3

I covered the entire board with a nice layer of paint and left it dry. The bottle says an hour between coats. So while that was drying I put a coat of the Terracotta on the wooden letters.

Springwood-4

Then I walked away. It was tough but I followed the directions. I came back later and painted both the board and letters with a thin layer of the White Vintage Decor Paint.

Springwood-5

Then once the paint has completely dried – 24 hours – then you can sand the layer of white down to expose some of the blue and terracotta underneath. Using a 220 piece of sand paper I attacked the board first. I  wanted to really make it looked distressed so I sanded more of the white off. I tried a little bit at a time, then I wiped the whole thing down with a damp cloth. If it needed more color, then I sanded more off.

Once the letters and sign board have been sanded and wiped down, the letters are glued to the board and let the glue dry.

Springwood-10

I used a small brush and the Terracotta paint to hand letter an ampersand and let the paint dry.

Springwood-11

The sign was ready to hang and looks great in my living room.

2014 Free Printable Santa Letter and Envelope

Back by Popular Demand is my printable Santa Envelope.

Here is the FREE 2014 postmark envelope and printable Santa letter! My daughter loves this and it really helps keep the magic alive. I updated the postmark and changed the letter. Download the Word documents below and customize it to fit your child's life. Enjoy and make a child smile!

Here is also something really cool, have your child write a letter to Santa and take it to the local Macy's and place it in the big red mail box for Santa. They donate a $1 for every letter they receive.

The Envelope: I made the file in a Word Document so it can be downloaded and the address can be personalized, then take a stamped envelope and run it through the printer printing this template on it. This "cancels" the stamp just like the post office. Grab the envelope here:  Download SantaEnvelope2014

2014envelopepictThe Letter: For three years now I have created a letter to place inside the envelope. This year I made updates and changes to the letter, so grab a new one!  I used the same logo for the letterhead and set it up with a text box to type your own letter or keep the letter I already have and just edit it for your child. If you choose to use the letter as is, the words in bold are what you will to personalize. Grab the letter here:  Download Santaletter2014

Santaletterpict

Both the letter and envelope are typed in a standard font for easy download for all. I used Free Fonts from 1001 Free Fonts.com to make them fancy.

The Name on the envelope: Jennifer Lane

The Body of the letter is in: Bodoni MT and Santa's signature is in: Jennifer Lane

This one of our favorite Christmas traditions. Start the Santa Letter Tradition for your family today!!! Happy Holidays!

I think you have to download the file, not just open it in the Explorer window.

Make sure the document opens in Word and not Microsoft Work Word Processor – it will be there but not formated correctly.

I have found that in some cases the Word file has 2 pages, one that has the return address and the stamp cancel, in the second page has the address text box.
The address text box can be moved by clicking on the corner of the text box and dragging the text box to the top page, then typing the address in the text box.

I believe you can also add a text box by going up to insert, text box.

I hope this helps!!!
Please let me know. If it doesn't work I can email you the file – maybe a direct email will help instead of downloading.

SHARE THIS – make a child smile and keep the magic alive!

Sparkle Handmade Putz House

My daughter loves Putz or Glitter Houses. They are those tiny Christmas paper houses from the 40's and 50's. She has many different styles, but this year she wanted to try her hand at making her own.

I thought I would use the Dazzling Diamond sticker sheets from the Buckle Boutique to make mine sparkle, which means less glue = less mess.

I used a paper house design I found on the web here.

Photo (9)

I cut it out of cardstock, then I cut pieces of the sticker sheet to fit each panel of the house and roof. I stuck the sticker sheets on and glued the house together. Photo (10)

I used a piece of the Rowlux Illusion Film for the door.

Then I used Beacon 527 glue and baking soda to make the snow.Photo 4

I'm in love with how easy it was to make and no mess of the glitter and the baking soda didn't make as big of a mess as I thought.

These make cute gifts for the holiday season.

Handmade Holiday – Reflective Mug Cozy

Handmade Holidays 2014 Hop Logo

Welcome to the 4th Annual Handmade Holidays Blog Hop! A few years ago we were looking online for handmade gift ideas and thought it would be great if there was a resource dedicated JUST to handmade gift ideas. Enter the Handmade Holidays hop! We've gathered over 100 of our creative blogger friends in the craft industry as well as some of our fellow product manufacturers to bring you a plethora of inspiring gift ideas you can make now to give to your friends, family, and colleagues. Pin and bookmark these ideas for this holiday season and to use throughout the year! Each day of the hop features approximately 30 gift projects and you can "hop" from one blog to another to check them all out.

Today, I created a gift for all of those moms (or fur mommas) that have to stand outside or go on walks outside in the early morning, (read before the sun is up) with the kids waiting for the bus (or walking the fur babies)

This reflective mug cozy keeps your morning beverage warm, gives your hands a nice soft cup to hug and is reflective to help you be noticed in the dark, in your still sleepy state. Ha, ha.

But seriously the reflective property gives it just a little bit of shine that gets you noticed while taking Fido on that quick morning walk!

I knit the cozy using the Reflective Yarn by Red Heart. Plus, I also used a rhinestone buckle from The Buckle Boutique for the button to give it that special bling that makes every girl smile.

The knitting pattern is simple:

You need 1 ball of the Reflective Yarn

US 9 Knitting needles

a buckle

yarn needle to finish

Instructions:

Cast on 14 stitiches.

Row1, 3, 5: K3, P2, K4, P2, K3

Row2, 4, 6: K5, P4, K5

Row 7: K3, P2, Cable 4 front, P2, K3

Row8: K5, P4, K5

Repeat this pattern until the knitted piece measures 9inches. Bind off. Weave in ends. I chained a 4" piece to creat the button loop on one end, on the opposite I stitched the buckle on.

Bottle Cap Bling

I am in love with making these cute bottle cap necklaces. I put all kinds of images inside.

Bottlecap-2

This week I used the Dazzling Diamond Sticker Sheet from the Buckle Boutique. It was simple to punch out the 1" circle using my Martha Stewart Paper Punch. YES, you read that correctly, I am able to use the Dazzling Diamond Sticker Sheets with a regular paper punch. It cuts a nice clean edge and the 1" circle fits perfectly into the cap.

I peeled the paper off the adhesive back and stuck in right on the bottle cap. Right there is a cool cap, but I thought I would take it to the next level by adding adornments to the sticker sheet. I added a heart sticker and the word love, dotted some glittler paint and filled the whole cap with the Jewelry Pendant Gel. I let the bottle cap sit for 24 hours for the gel to set.

I added a cool string necklace and BAM – totally sparkly necklace in no time!

Stop by the Buckle Boutique to pick up your Dazzling Diamond Sticker Sheets and see where your creativity takes you!!!

Night Out Shoe Clips

  Clips-1

I needed a little pizazz for a night out. I have a pair of black flats, so I grabbed 2 rhinestone slides from the Buckle Boutique and a pair of shoe clips too. Clip the 2 together and magically a boring pair of flat become party shoes.

I used the black shoes clips and opened the staple part of the clip that holds the fabric to the shoe clip. I inserted the slide of the heart. I used pliers to crimp the metal prongs tight to the slide.

I didn't even need to use glue. I think a dot of glue would make the whole unit more secure, but by making sure the prongs are crimped tight it isn't necessary. I trimmed the black fabric attached to the shoe clip so it would not show behind the slide.
