Furry Fridays – James from Daddy Space

Brought to you by Steph and Becky!
James from Daddy Space pays tribute to a beautiful dog and friend.
Hello I'm James the blogger behind Daddy Space thank you so much to Becky and Steph for letting me post about my dog.

It was a long drive to the kennels to pick up our very playful and fluffy golden Labrador who we would call Sam. On the drive back he wasn't a happy puppy at all he totally hated every second of the journey home. He soon settled in to his surroundings and from what I can remember he didn't howl the house down too much. My dad would have been the person getting up, so maybe he has a different account of events.

I'm 25 now and I'd have been 11 when we first got Sam I remember deciding that he was going to be my dog and I'd always be there for him. He spent the majority of his puppy years chewing furniture, pooping and weeing everywhere, all in a days work for a puppy. It was always a pleasure coming home from school to his wagging tail and excitable nature. The routine was home from school, din din's and then a walk up the field. When it was raining heavy I'd put on my big coat and take them up the field as per usual. I'd pretend I was in the army and that I was being forced to march on through a battle field in horrendous conditions (I must have looked a wally)

We used to take Sam to the beach, it was one of his favorite places to go. I recall one time we went and the sea was a bit stormy and Sam charged in to the water and charged through the broken waves as he loved to do. This one occasion he went in and was caught out by a wave which hadn't broken yet. Sam was caught in the extreme current which occurs when a wave is building and no amount of swimming on his part could get him away from this wave. It inevitably broke and washed him in. I had never seen the look of so much fear on his face before. He was staring right at me when he got caught I was powerless to help. He was needless to say ready to go home after that encounter and spent most of that evening feeling a bit sorry for himself.
Sam was a happy go lucky young/teen dog however as he started to become a more mature dog he needed to slow down. His hips were becoming a problem for him stiffening up all the time but numerous trips to the vet kept that problem for him as minimal as possible. However it did slow him down a lot and big trips out to the beach became less and less. As you can see above he had to be held back a lot he became more contented with cuddles instead of exercise. The golden retriever in the above, is his little sister Honey.

This picture was taken about three years ago, this is probably the last photo I have of Sammy before his age and hips got the better of him.

Sadly due to his deteriorating condition we had to have him put down on the 1st February 2013 he was not a very well dog. I wanted to do this post to celebrate his life and remember all the good times we had I will never forget him. He was truly an amazing dog and best friend.

Vintage Thrifty Finds, New Hair and More!

Last weekend we went to Washington DC and I found some great thrifty and vintage finds! I'm gonna share some of them today along with a couple of local finds paired togeter to make an awesome outfit! Next week, I'll share the rest of the DC finds.

BUT Let's start off with just gushing over the hair. I'm in love with the color and cut. The length lends itself to being curled or pulled back into a pony and the length of the bangs can be curled or pomped. I love it!

Next, I heart MAC makeup and right now they have a new collection called Archie's Girls. My Hub's gave the approval to go crazy and get whatever of the collection that I wanted. Well, I got the Veronica lipstick and liner to match. I'm in love with the color and the staying power!

Then there is the excitement as my first new bullet bra arrived. It's not marked as such but it fits well and it is pretty pointy. So for an everyday late 1940's to early 1950's look this bra does the trick. You can find it here on Amazon for a great price.

Vintage Pink Blouse – The Atomic Warehouse, Harrisburg, PA
Vintage Black Wool Skirt – Salvation Army, Camp Hill, PA
Mossimo Shoes – Goodwill, Alexandria, VA
Vintage Jacket – The Furgalista, Alexandria, VA
Lucite and Metal Purse – The Atomic Warehouse, Harrisburg, PA

The outfit cost me $21.98 including shoes, the purse on the other hand cost me $20.

Plus all these pictures were taken by the 4 year old using my brand spanking new Sony NEX-5 that I won!!! I have know idea how it works, it has so many features, but so far I think it's doing a great job.

The DC Weekend

Ok, so we went to Washington DC for a long weekend because of my daughter's Irish Dance Nationals. She danced one solo and one team. She did a good job, no awards but still at 4 years old to get up and dance in front of 200+ people that's a pretty big deal. I wouldn't do it so the fact that she does makes me proud.

She, of course, loves the dancing, but really it was about the shopping and hangin' out with friends.

Here we are at the American Girl Doll Store. She's getting her picture taken with the girl of the year.

Here she is trying on some new glasses with her buds. I love the pink mustache that she has!

Then we found a Krispy Kreme. Fresh, Hot, tastey goodness!! I love them, I think they are the most perfect doughnut. And yes, Hubs wore the hat because the kid would not!

There was more to the trip, like the car breaking down and that saved us from being in the middle of a fatal  cop shoot out with an armed man. Crazy, I tell ya, if the car wouldn't have died where it did, we would have been having car hiccups right in the middle of a fire fight!

All in all it was a good weekend. I'll share my awesome thrifty finds later this week – so stay tuned, they are pretty great!

Furry Fridays – Brittany from The Domestic Geek

Brought to you by Steph and Becky!

Here's Brittany from The Domestic Geek with her fur love Buddy!

I'm Brittany from The Domestic Geek blog, I'm here for Furry Fridays to talk about my dog Buddy!

I met Buddy almost 5 years ago, he greeted me at the door of his owner’s house. Then I met his owner, and we ended up dating and eventually getting married. I tell everyone I married him for the dog, who I met first!

Buddy is a yellow lab (but he has features of a chocolate lab like the brown nose). His favorite things in the world are hunting and rawhides, although he had to retire from hunting this year, we still take jhim for nice hikes and of course rides!

Posing with a fake pheasant.
I have never met another dog like him, he is the most loyal friend and so well behaved. My family members have smaller dogs, and they are always harassing Buddy. Even though he’s 4 times the size of them he will let them take toys and treats away from him, if they playfully go after him he either just lets them or tries to walk away. He is a little pushover when it comes to other dogs.
Downward Facing Dog?

My husband trained him for hunting, and he is so well trained. My favorite trick is when we’re playing fetch in the backyard if you tell him to stay then throw the ball he will sit and stare at where you threw the ball until he has permission to grab it. You can see the determination in his eyes to go get that ball, but he doesn’t go against your command. He listens so well, we like to sit on our front porch at night when the weather is nice, and he comes out there with us. He knows he’s not allowed past the top step unless he gets permission. So he’ll watch other dogs and squirrels from his perch at the top of the step.

In matter of fact, one time this year I was a bad dog mom. My daughter was a newborn, so in order to get Buddy to not bark to greet guests we would open the door so he could greet them quietly from the front porch. Well, at one point we let him out and apparently we forgot to bring him back in. It was 45 minutes later that I looked out the porch and saw Buddy just hanging out on the top step looking at passing by dogs going for walks. I felt so bad, but I blame the new mom delirium. I’m pretty sure he would have barked to come in if he wasn’t enjoying himself so much.
Playing with my daughter
My one training tip with dogs is, when you’re training them never reward them with treats! You have to reward a dog with love and attention. Scratch their ears, get down on the floor and play with them, or some other interaction if they did something good. This makes the greatest bond between you and your dog.
It’s the best positive reinforcement because it will always be there, you’ll always be able to pet your dog, but will you always have a treat on hand? They also appreciate it more and they won’t get unnecessarily fat (although we do still give him treats, just not based on behavior).

Happy Valentines Day – Last Minute Printable & other stuff

Happy Valentine's Day!!! Here is a last minute printable for all of the busy people out there. This is really cute and I love the quote from Poe. If you read the rest of the poem, Annabel Lee, it's fairly morbid and sad, it's Poe what do you expect.

Young love seperated by death, where the lover becomes obbessed with her and lays by her tomb each night. Perfect for Valentine's Day, right?!?!

Download The Chalkboard Love Print Here!

My Daughter got a crazy big Valentine's Gift. I scored a 5 doll Monster High set at the Goodwill brand new in box for $10 – retail price on that is $55!! My Hubs said it was way too much for Valentine's day, but I only spent $10 and that's what candy and a card would cost these days. Plus she can take the dolls this weekend to play with at the dance competition.

Don't you love the bed head! I love this kid!!

What did you get for Valentine's Day? I got a "cash-certificate" for a 1950's Bullet Bra, like this one here

60th Anniversary!

My Grandparents are celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary on Valentine's Day. It's really amazing, think about it, 60 years together, all the places and events they have seen. I love it.

For me this is the year that I have hit half my life with Hubs, that's pretty crazy! – we were together many years before we were married. I can only hope that we can get to the big Diamond Anniversary!

We had a little shindig for them, last Sunday.

Here is the family. This is the product of 60 years together – look at us, we're pretty awesome!

Happy Anniversary Gram and Pap! Here's to many more years together!
