Back to School Bento Lunch

The first day of school has arrived and of course the Kid has decided that the lunch menu doesn't meet her lunchtime needs. So, I guess I'm a lunch packer now. I have tried making bentos in the past. Here is my first school time bento box.

We included Bacon, Rice, Alphabet Cheez-its, Grapes, Koala Bear Cookies and a small cup of frozen yogurt.

I cut the "ABC" out of cheese and the School House from a sweet red pepper.

Decoration was a plastic school bus ring.

I sent a drink bottle of 100% juice with her as well.

I hope that she likes it!

The Kid starts School – a Photo Shoot

My little tiny starts Kindergarten this year, so we had to have a photo shoot to celebrate. She's so cute in her uniform. So big, so fast.

I love photographing her. She takes all her Next Top Model knoweledge and puts it to work. Every image she poses herself and just makes it work.

Here's to a great school year and we wish you the same! Do you have a little one starting school this year? Did you cry – share your story with me – I want to see if I'm the only one.

Furry Fridays – Ali of Ali Thompson Art

Brought to you weekly by Becky and Steph!
Meet Ali & Sparkles from Ali Thompson Art

Hi! My name is Ali Thompson, and I'm
an artist and blogger. My website is You can
check out my blog and look at my art. Maybe you could buy some art,
who knows?

But today, I am talking about my
cats, not my art. Which is great, because almost any conversation I
have with another pet owner will eventually turn into one about my
cats. Were we talking about serious politics? Well, we're not any
more because I have cats. And cats are way less depressing than

I have three cats– Tifa, Foxy, and
Sparkles. But I really want to talk about Sparkles the most.DSC00217

Sparkles was 11 years old when I got
her from the Philadelphia SPCA shelter. She had been there for 8
months, and she was pretty grumpy. And when I say grumpy, I mean she
hated everything and everyone in the entire world.

I didn't intend to get a third cat.
I was trying to help my mom pick out a cat for herself, and I got
caught by ads from people begging someone to take beloved pets
they couldn't keep any more. I looked around my house, and I thought
to myself, I can take another cat. I have room.

At the shelter, I had already picked out a different
cat. A younger cat. A less angry cat.

But the staff of the shelter wanted
me to meet Sparkles. She had been there so long, they said. We'll
waive the fees, they said. She's really quite sweet, they said.

“RRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrr!” said
Sparkles, crouching in the back of a small cage, glaring her panther
glare at me.

For some reason, I said ok. I'll
take her. It might have been when I saw her vampire fangs.

Did I mention that she has vampire
fangs? It's hard to tell in her pictures, and she doesn't really
like having pictures taken. I think I fell in love with her a little
right then when I saw her fangs.

And it's took a while for her to
integrate into the house. She hid in the basement. She hid under the
couch. She staked out under the table in the dining room and
defended it which much growling.

She'll never be a lap cat, and she
doesn't tolerate much foolishness like petting, unless it's from my
boyfriend. She adores my boyfriend. And she's funny. She loves
treats more than any other cat I've ever seen. We taught her to sit
on command, because she'll do anything for treats.

I told you all that to tell you this.
If you're thinking about adopting a pet, think about one that's
older. Sparkles was someone else's pet, until they couldn't keep her
anymore. Older animals have a hard time being adopted because they
aren't as cute as a kitten or puppy. A lot of them were pets, and
they're upset by being in the shelter. So they may not be as
friendly as another cat, which means it's even harder for them to be

But I couldn't stand to think of
Sparkles spending her cat retirement years in cat jail. And I've
never been sorry. She's an excellent and awesome cat. So for your
next new animal, think about going older.

Summer Crafting

I've been crafting like mad this summer! Check out some of my projects that I have done over at Think Crafts Blogs.

Here is my Hot Glue Painting. I really loved making this, it makes a really cool end result and is an unconventional medium to work with in paintings.

I have shared my Frosted "Glass" Luminaries, but if you haven't seen them here they are. They look like glass – but ther are not! Go see how to make them.

I also did some Bleach Stamping this summer. It worked better for The Kid to use stamps than to paint with bleach.

My daughter loves hair bows and I hate sewing, so I created No Sew Hair Bows that can be glued to clips and done in minutes!

Since we are on the hair clip theme, check these animal head clips out. Use $1 store animals to make these cute hair clips.

We worked on reverse painting on Shrinkable Plastic. It makes the finsihed piece like 3D.

and last but not leasst the Faux Wood Coasters. These have been a huge hit, if you haven't checked them out yet, please do. Fun to make and use.

Summer Bucket List – Crayola Factory

We made it to the Crayola Experience. And that it was. Sunday and crayons lead to long lines and massive amounts of people. But my daughter had a great time and so did I. We made crayons with our names on and injected markers with color. We cut puzzles, molded wax into shapes, painted with wax and melted crayons into spin art.

We got another pressed penny and saw the Worlds Largest Crayon. It was a great day with friends exploring our creative sides.

Furry Fridays – Amy of ART of the Heart

Brought to you weekly by Becky and Steph!
Meet Amy and her fur babies!
I'm Amy from ART of the HEART… and these are mine and husband's babies,
Harper and Brutus….
Harper is our Great Dane and Brutus is our English bulldog.
Harper is an AKC registered blue Great Dane. My husband got her for me from a
breeder in AR when she was 8 weeks old. She was 8 pounds, and she was a clumsy,
floppy little puppy with huge paws and loooong legs. It took her almost a year
 to grow into those legs!
When I first got her, she would take naps on my chest or lap, now
only her head will fit in my lap! She still thinks she's a lap dog and will sometimes
sit on me (like a person) as if I'm a chair! She grew up SO fast. Since danes grow
at such a rapid pace, it's recommended that you strictly schedule 2-3 feedings a
day in certain size portions. It is also highly recommended that you feed them high
protein, large breed puppy food until they are 2 years old. I use Eukanuba large
breed puppy. Harper just turned 2 on July 27th and she is about 150lbs now!
I've been through so much with this baby since I got her. At about 4 months old,
she got parvo. If you know anything about puppies with parvo, you know it's
pretty much the worst thing ever. She stopped eating and threw up constantly.
She lost tons of weight and refused to even drink. It got to the point where I
had to force Gatorade down her throat with a large feeding syringe to keep
her hydrated. FINALLY, it got so bad that my husband drove 5 hours (where
his veterinarian uncle works/lives in Chattanooga, TN) in the middle of the night.
His uncle quickly put her on an IV drip and treated her for about 2 weeks. Thank
God she pulled through. We traveled back to Chatt. and picked up a hyper, healthy
pup. I could probably write a book of stories about Harper growing up, but that
would take forever!
Brutus is my husband, Cody's, CKC registered English bulldog. Cody got Brutus at
6 months old from some friends who could no longer take care of him. It's sad that
we didn't get to raise him from puppyhood but Cody loves him so much. He's a feisty
character who is VERY protective. We also think he's partially blind because he barks
at anything out of the ordinary… even if it's one of us wearing something like a motorcycle
helmet or holding something large. It's like he can only see silhouettes and can't clearly
 identify things. Kind of strange.
Brutus has remained fairly healthy. He has a form of mange that is hereditary and treatable
but not curable which makes him unsuitable for breeding, so we got him neutered pretty
quickly to get that over with. It also makes him shed in massive amounts which kind of
get annoying to constantly clean up. Can you tell which pup I like better? Haha.
I do love Brutus though, he's very playful and energetic. He likes to rare up on his
hind legs and slam his front feet down on the floor when he plays. He also bounces
around and turns circles when he's excited. It's very cute!
So… Those are our children! They are definitely more than just pets. We love our little family.

Vintage Romper Looks Good with the Bug

I hit a couple of hot stores in the DC area and I found this adorable vintage Diane Von Furstenberg romper. I had it in my hands purely based on the Hawiian print, then it fit so awesome and matched the car. How could I leave this behind? It needed to come and live in my closet.

Totally loving it on a warm summer day, cruising in my VW.

Green Giant Veggie Snacks – Perfect Princess Picnic Snacks!

My family loves chips and they are pretty much a staple of our evenings.
Chillin' with a bag of chips and dip while watching a movie sums up our
weekend ritual fairly well. That's my "go to" item when I have to bring
something for a party too, I'm the (chips &) Dip Girl.

Well, I have found my new snack. I had the opportunity to try out the new Green Giant Veggie Tortillas and Sweet Potato Chips. The new Green Giant Veggie Snacks are a
healthy alternative to the regular potato chip. The Roasted Veggie Tortillas pack a full
18g of whole grain into one serving plus they are made with real
vegetables. The Multigrain Sweet Potato Chips have 14g of whole grain and a far less greasy than regular chips.

Green Giant Veggie Chips Key Visual 3

I love that that these chips are crispy and flavorful to fix that craving for a snack. Plus the Sweet Potato chips have less fat than regular chips almost by 50%!

We got to try the Garden Ranch Roasted VeggieTortilla Chips and the Barbecue Multigrain Sweet Potato Chips. The tortillas were full of flavor, but overall just a little too much for my taste but my little one loves them.

The Sweet Potato Chips on the other hand are my new best friend. LOVE THEM! The Sweet and Spicy combo is so yummy, I can't be left alone with the bag! We love them so much we decided that they needed to have a special dip made in their honor so they can be our new movie night snack.

These Green Giant Veggie Snacks must be a hit because they were the spotlight of an impromptu Princess Picnic! My daughter and I hung out in the grass snacking away on our new chips.

Now for the awesome dip I made to go with the Sweet Potato Chips. Because who doesn't love chips and dip!?!?

Fabulous Raspberry Dip for the Multigrain Sweet Potato Chip!!!

(1) 6 oz container of Plain Greek Yogurt

1/4 cup Raspberry Preserves

2 tsp. Honey

Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix it up. Set it back in the fridge to set up and bit, then bust open that bag of Green Giant Sweet Potato Chips and snack away.

Frosted “Glass” Luminaries

We saw these glass luminaries at a home decor store and I thought they were so pretty but in the dog/child house that I live in they are completely unrealistic. I came up with a simple DIY project using soda bottles and some white paint. They look just like the glass ones, but will not shatter into a million pieces WHEN they get knocked over. The porch is going to look stunning on these lazy summer nights with these pretty lights. I have shared my complete tutorial over at Think Crafts, check it out here.
