I'm in love with Sugar Skulls and this year I wanted to put a little pizzazz in my Day of the Dead outfit by sprucing up my ballet flats. A simple project using the dollar store black roses, Sculpey and the fantastic shoe clips from The Buckle Boutique.
Start the project by making a skull out of white polymer clay. Use white clay and roll it into a ball. Squash the ball into a flat circle shape. Pinch it to make the shape of the skull. Use the eraser end of pencil to make the divots for the eyes. Bake the clay according to the directions. Let cool.
Once the skull is cool use a fine tip permanent marker to draw the face and decoration of the sugar skull. Glue rhinestones in the eye divots.
Next, take apart the black rose, remove all of the plastic parts from the fake flower. Hot glue the layers of the flower back together and glue the skull in the center. Glue the shoe clip to the back of the flower.
Now clip the awesome Sugar Skull to the plain black flats and you're ready for any Halloween festivities.
